Nana v1.3 and UIPS

August 24, 2010

The old but still quite useful Nana now has a Win32 SDL build, various minor improvements, and source code available under GPL.

I've also re-released UIPS under the GPL.

See the release notes for details, or the Informer page to download.

Informer

March 20, 2008

Is that CD legit? Are those FLAC files just recoded MP3s in disguise? Now you know. Informer is a real-time spectrograph designed to make lossy audio compression artifacts clearly visible.

Visit the Informer page to see what it's all about.

Highly Experimental v2.09

May 9, 2006

Highly Experimental v2.09 is out, with some bug fixes and improvements:
  • XMPlay: Fixed bug that caused non-PSF files to show improper lengths when queued in the playlist
  • XMPlay: Fixed empty error dialogs at the end of every song when "Show error messages" was enabled
  • Fixed a silence detection bug that, very rarely, would have caused songs to end too early
  • Slight improvements in CPU usage all around, particularly when "Simulate frequency response" is enabled
Available at the Highly Experimental page.

Highly Experimental v2.08

April 19, 2006

  • Added support for Replay Gain and Clip Protect
  • Added support for Winamp Media Library and Advanced Title Formatting
  • Added native support for XMPlay
  • Added Unicode tag support, as described in PSF format spec v1.6
  • Fixed numerous bugs in PSF2 loading that were causing memory leaks and sub-optimal speed
  • New installer EXE
As always, downloadable at the Highly Experimental page.

PSFPoint now public domain

July 20, 2004

I've released a new version of PSFPoint to the public domain. Now that the tagging code is unencumbered, it's easier than ever to add PSF tagging capability to your own applications.

QSF (QSound), Highly Quixotic, and more

May 15, 2004

Always wanted to add QSound games to Winamp, without requiring a separate player? Now you can. The new QSF format brings the same functionality of PSF to Capcom QSound-based arcade games.

And with the addition of Adam Gashlin's nearly-complete USF (Nintendo 64) subformat, PSF now covers 6 different systems. To recognize this, I've officially renamed it the "Portable Sound Format".

Links, players, new format documentation, new how-tos, and QSF files: You know where to look.

Beats of Rage

January 31, 2004

For anyone wondering what I've been up to lately, I just finished a Dreamcast and a Playstation 2 port of a new homebrew game called Beats of Rage. No, it has nothing to do with Bemani, but check it out.

Highly Experimental v2.07

January 23, 2004

Highly Experimental v2.07 now recognizes NTSC vs. PAL regions and supports _refresh tag overrides, as outlined in the latest PSF specification.
